Another round of rain in the forecast for the next 24 hours. You could see rain in the morning as well as in the afternoon on your Friday. By Sunday and 4th of July Monday we are expecting to see a more typical summertime pattern. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected by then. We are doing well on rain now. Page field in Fort Myers broke a one day rainfall record, 4.22" on Thursday. That broke the record of 3.00" set in 1909. That brings our rainfall totals for the month up to 10.00", the normal amount is 9.77". For the year we have gotten 21.99" and the normal is 21.93". back to normal now.

Record Rainfall Soaks Ft. Myers

4.22" of rain fell on Wednesday at Page Field in Fort Myers, breaking the former record of 3" set in 1909. Thursday will bring another good chance for scattered showers and storms that could produce heavy rainfall yet again. And keep that umbrella handy through the weekend! Scattered morning and afternoon storms are expected through Saturday, and afternoon storms are expected through your July 4th.

Arlene Making Landfall in Mexico

The first named storm of the season, Tropical Storm Arlene, is currently making landfall near Cabo Rojo along the central coast of Mexico. Arlene is a strong tropical storm with winds of 65 mph. Arlene is expected to produce 4 to 8 inches of rainfall with local amounts of 15 inches possible over portions of eastern Mexico.

Tropical Storm Arlene has formen in the SW Gulf of Mexico and will be moving toward Mexico. - Jim

It will be another wet day accross most of the area. Abundant tropical moisture is nearby so it looks like more clouds than sun today. Speaking of tropical, the disturbance in the SW Gulf will be moving westward, away from SW Florida.

Scattered rain & storms moving north today. Expect this to be hanging around for the rest of the evening.

A wetter pattern is in place for the next several days. A few showers could pop up early in the morning, most of the rain and storms will be in the afternoon and evening. We are also watching tropical mosture to our southwest over the southern Gulf of Mexico. This system is moving to the northwest and is not expected to develop. The high and mid level clouds will be streaming overhead for the next three days because of this disturbance. You will notice more clouds than sun for the next few days along with the rain. Slightly drier weather by the end of the week.
