Storms are weakening to the north. We will still have some rain from 7 thru 12 across SWFL.

The line of storms that brought severe weather to central Florida is weakening as it moves into SWFL. We where thinking this yesterday, and it came true, as the upper level support for severe storms has moved out of the region. So with that being said, rain and a few storms are still possible from around 7pm to midnight across the area. On average, we might see .25" to 1" in some backyards.

Sunny and dry weather returns for Friday and the weekend.

TORNADO WATCH

A Tornado Watch has been issued for Southwest Florida until 8pm this evening. This includes: Charlotte, Lee, Glades, Hendry, DeSoto, and Highlands counties.

TORNADO WATCH

A Tornado Watch is in effect for all of the Southwest Florida until 1pm this afternoon. A line of strong to severe thunderstorms continues to push across parts of central Florida and will gradually sink to the south as we head into the afternoon hours ahead of a cold front. Keep your eye to the sky today, as some of the storms will pack a punch with the greatest threats being gusty winds in excess of 45 to 50 mph, heavy rain, and small hail. Conditions will improve by early Friday morning as dry air works its way down the state with a pleasant weekend in store.

Get Ready!

Rain is on the way, a few strong thunderstorms are likely, too. I would not be suprised if these thunderstorms produce small hail and 50 mph wind gusts, so minor wind damage is possible. When? Thursday between 2pm and 8pm seems like the best window for the wettest, windiest weather. - Jim

Warm, humid and windy today! 30mph wind gusts! Strong storms in the forecast tomorrow afternoon.

Watching a cold front in north Florida producing strong and severe storms. This front will work its way down the state by tomorrow evening. Ahead of this we will see gusty wind and possible strong to severe storms starting around 4pm in Charlotte County to 9pm in Collier County. I am thinking that the strong weather is more focused to the northern areas of SWFL. Either way you need to keep a look out for small hail and wind damage along with heavy rain in some locations.

After the front moves through late Thursday, you can expect less humid weather for Friday and Saturday.

Hot and humid!

Crank up the A/C...unseasonably high humidity levels and near record high temperatures will combine to create heat indices or 'feels like' temperatures in the low 90's this afternoon! A forecast high of 88 degrees in Ft. Myers would be 2 degrees shy of the record of 90 degrees set in 1945. Be sure to wear light-weight, light-colored clothing and drink plenty of fluids if spending extended periods of time outdoors today. A breezy southwesterly wind will pick up to 15-20 mph with higher gusts. Look for a mix of sun and clouds with the chance of a few showers/an isolated thunderstorm inland this afternoon into the evening.

Stay cool!

Two 2010 Hurricane Season Storm Names Retired

The World Meteorological Organization has retired two storm names from 2010's Atlantic Hurricane Season, Igor & Tomas. Igor was the most damaging hurricane in Newfoundland in 75 years. Tomas caused deaths in St. Lucia & in Haiti where Tomas' impacts contributed to a cholera epidemic that killed thousands. The WMO's list of storm names repeats every 6 years; Ian & Tobias are the replacement names that will appear in 2016.

Scattered rain & storms inland right now, moving NE! More rain for tomorrow!

A tricky forecast for the next few days. Right now we are watching a stalled out front just to the north of us. This will keep the clouds around and some rain as well. The trick is when does this front weaken and leave the area? We are thinking that by the end of the week we should see drier weather push in. But until then, expect to see some rain on your Tuesday, a little break on Wednesday and Thursday, then more rain moves through on Friday.

Today we picked up some much needed rain. Collier County getting the least about, on average, 1". Lee County around 1.50" and Charlotte County 2.50". With the rain today, we also saw wind gusts in the upper 40s and low 50s and we had some trees down with power lines too.

Warm and humid weekend ahead! Highs in the upper 80s for most! Rain may come to SWFl on Tuesday..

Enjoy the weekend! Highs will be in the upper 80s for most or us. The exception will be the beaches, upper 70s and low 80s there due to the Gulf breeze. Either way lots of sun and more humid as the next weather system approaches. We might squeeze out a shower or two on Monday or Tuesday. A better chance of some much needed rain by Friday.

A Warm End to the Week

Now that the low clouds and patchy fog have dissipated, mostly sunny conditions are in store throughout the afternoon hours. A weak cold front located over central Florida will weaken and washout over the state, with slightly drier air filtering in as we round out the work week. It will be a warm one with daytime highs in the low to mid 80s, but low temperatures tonight will be on the cooler side in the upper 50s to low 60s. High pressure will be in control as we head into the weekend with plenty of sunshine and warm weather. Isolated rain will move back into Southwest Florida for the beginning of the week ahead of another cold front.

Warm weather into the weekend, but some rain possible Mon & Tue. Hgihs in the mid 80s.

Warm weather continues into your weekend. Highs will make it into the mid to upper 80s. The change you will notice is the humidity that will be increasing. Dewpoints will approach the upper 60s by Sunday and Monday. With the higher dewpoints early next week we might see a few showers as well. A better chance of rain on Tuesday. We can use the rain as we are about 2-3 inches below normal.

Dense Fog in Charlotte County

Dense fog has developed across portions of Charlotte county this morning with a visibility of 1/4 mile currently being reported at Punta Gorda. Visibilities running at 8 miles at Page Field in Ft. Myers and 10 miles in Naples but some low clouds are currently in place. Be sure to drive with extra caution this morning, leave plenty of safe driving distance and utilize low beam head lights. The fog and low level clouds will dissipate by mid to late morning.

Warm Afternoons

Temperatures will continue to run above average for at least the next 7 afternoons. With less wind, there should be a little more haze and fog each morning. I still do not see any cold fronts capable of arriving, so we stay dry through the weekend. - Jim

Cooler AM, Gulf Breeze Today

Don't forget the light jacket this morning as temperatures are running 5-10 degrees cooler over yesterday morning, down into the 50's across much of the area. A clear sky, calm wind and the drier air that worked in yesterday afternoon behind a back door cold front combined to allow for more efficient cooling overnight thus we're feelin a little chillier on this Tuesday morning...but we'll be able to break out the short sleeves this afternoon with highs back into the mid 80's. A lighter easterly wind will allow the gulf breeze to kick in this afternoon thus temps at the beaches will not be quite as toasty today with highs in the upper 70's to 80 degrees along the coast. High pressure in control will keep around a bright, sunny sky through the day.

Enjoy!

Great weather through the week. The breeze will relax a bit the next few days as highs get to the mid 80s!

Monday was a warm dry day across the area! Wind gusts in the low to mid 20s today as high got to the middle 80s. This trend will continue for the rest of the week. The breeze will relax for the next few days as well. But it will remain very dry. Details on WINK at 5,6, and 7.

Sunny Start to Spring!

Another beautiful day in store for the first full day of the Spring season! Mild and a little muggy this morning with patchy areas of fog and some localized low clouds but by mid morning a sunny sky will be in full effect. Mostly sunny and breezy this afternoon with an east wind at 15 mph with higher gusts. Another warm afternoon with low 80's at the beaches to mid 80's inland...feeling slightly less humid later today as some slightly drier air works in behind a washed out back door cold front.

Perfect baseball weather this evening for the Tampa Bay Rays taking on the New York Yankees at Charlotte Sports Park! Expect a mostly clear sky, a relaxing breeze and temperatures in the upper 70's for first pitch at 7:05 pm cooling to near 70 degrees by late evening.

Happy Spring!

Lunacy

Saturday's Full Moon (exact at 2:10 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time) is at perigee, and this is slightly closer than usual. So the Moon will appear bigger and brighter than it has in 19 years — but only by a slight trace! In the mean time, I still expect above average temps are expected through next week. - Jim

A Fantastic Friday!

The low clouds and fog continue to dissipate this morning, with plenty of sunshine in the forecast throughout the afternoon hours. Temperatures today will top out in the mid 80s with slightly cooler readings along the coastline and beaches. Winds will stay fairly light as we go into the evening and overnight hours with low clouds and fog redeveloping by early Saturday morning. The weekend looks great with a mostly sunny sky and warm temperatures in the 80s.

Another great looking beach day, but don't forget that SPF, with abundant sunshine in store this afternoon with toasty highs temperatures in the low to mid 80's. And get ready for a sunny and warm weekend ahead with near record high temperatures in the mid to upper 80's on Sunday for the start of the Spring season...Spring officially begins at 7:21pm Sunday evening.

Chance of a Boom

A Pleasant Start to the Week

Clouds will continue to be on the decrease tonight as drier air surges down the peninsula. Overnight lows will be on the cooler side, so a jacket or sweater may be needed as you head out the door in the morning (especially our northern counties). A cold front will approach the area on Thursday with an increase in clouds and isolated rain - in its wake, another cool down by next weekend.

We Need the Rain!

An area of strong high pressure off to our north will continue to bring in easterly winds between 15 - 20 mph, with higher gusts. This combined with a dry airmass will keep the the fire danger very high across Southwest Florida. Our dry pattern will hold into the first half of the weekend with daytime highs into the low 80s. A cold front on Sunday will bring scattered rain throughout the afternoon and evening hours, with drier conditions for the start of next week.

Rain...What's That?

Look for increasing clouds and isolated rain to break out as a cold front approaches and moves through SWFL this afternoon and into the evening. Sorry to see our beautiful weather of the last 2 weeks take a break, but the rainfall is much needed as the last measurable rainfall reported at Page Field in Ft. Have a great afternoon,
