Brian: 2 months away from Hurricane Season... Live chat with Jim Farrell..

With the calendar turning to April, our attention begins to turn toward the summer months and, of couse, the start of the Atlantic hurricane season on June 1st. Our Chief Meteorologist, Jim Farrell, is at the National Hurricane Conference in Orlando all this week. A cool feature we're spotlighting right now with our partners at the News-Press, is the opportunity to ask Jim the questions you have about the hurricane season and tropical weather in general! This evening at about 5:15, you can join Jim at news-press.com for that live video chat!

What about the season? Early next week, we'll get the latest forecast from Dr. Phil Klotzbach and Dr. William Gray at Colorado State University. At this point, we continue to expect a slightly above average hurricane season.. but these numbers could get bumped up further depending on the evolution of El Nino over the next several weeks. Signs now are pointing toward a weakening El Nino (if not neutral set-up) for the upcoming season.. which would weaken the vertical wind shear that works against tropical storm formation. Much more coming on the forecast next week!
