Drier air is moving into southwest Florida from the north right now, as a weak cold front is stalled/breaking apart across central and northern parts of the state. This drier air should ensure (overall) a drier day across the region, but where the storms will be this afternoon is much different from the past several days. As high pressure noses in from the west, expect a few thunderstorms to develop along the Gulf breeze near the coast -- especially in south Lee and Collier Counties. Instead of moving inland with time, these showers and storms will actually move out into the Gulf of Mexico is the steering wind is now northeasterly. This pattern will become more well entrenched over the next several days.. as a typical rainy season pattern sets up across the area.
