Good morning! When you turn on your car early this morning and take a look at the thermometer, you might be surprised at what you see. Pre-dawn temperatures are in the low to mid 80's through most of coastal southwest Florida (with mid to upper 70's inland)! The reason for the early morning warmth is two-fold: first, we have a weak onshore flow this morning guiding warm, humid air inland off of the Gulf of Mexico. More importantly, though, the last several afternoons have been mainly dry along the coastline and with that prevailing onshore flow, the moisture in the atmosphere has been building each day. With high dewpoint temperatures, the air has to stay warm overnight (above the dewpoint -- which is in the mid to upper 70's). If we were having more storms along the coast, some of that moisture would leave the air each day in the form of heavy rain from the afternoon storms; instead, it's staying in the air helping to elevate evening temperatures.
Today's another day where highs will push well into the 90's; it might be a bit cooler to the north and inland today with an upper level disturbance moving by. This upper level disturbance should allow for showers and storms to develop mainly along and east of I-75 (best chance of rain farther to the north). Here is today's forecast:
Naples Partly Cloudy Hot & Humid; High 93
Bonita Springs Partly Cloudy Hot & Humid; High 94
Fort Myers Partly Cloudy Hot & Humid; High 93
Cape Coral Partly Cloudy Hot & Humid; High 93
Port Charlotte Partly Cloudy Mainly Dry; High 92
Hendry Co. Partly Cloudy Scattered PM Storms; High 93
Glades Co. Partly Cloudy Scattered PM Storms; High 91
DeSoto Co. Partly Cloudy Scattered PM Storms; High 91
Drier weather will move in for everyone Tuesday through Thursday; the storms we do see, however, will be moving toward the coastline late in the day as the upper level steering pattern changes. I'll have more on this on WINK-TV in just minutes.. hope you can join us!
